These practices draw from Yoruba gods and rituals, creating a stunning display. And can we admire the lively ceremonies filled with dancing, music, and colourful costumes? So energetic! These beautiful celebrations are enjoyed well beyond Nigeria's borders. During various festivals and carnivals, their influence is evident in places from Cuba to Brazil, and even in other Caribbean nations, blending local traditions with Yoruba heritage for a truly memorable experience.

The impact is everywhere, from the colourful Caribbean ceremonies to the rhythms of salsa, jazz, and reggae, which feature instruments like the talking drum. These traditions act as a bridge, strengthening the cultural ties between Africa and the diaspora.

I must say, discovering the spirit of the Yoruba people, far from their homeland, has truly captivated me.

Next Steps

Though my research into the diaspora proved fruitful, I now need to focus on the 20th and 21st centuries to finish the timeline. I'm also starting to consider the final presentation, exploring immersive platforms as an alternative to a traditional website.

Learnings & Challenges

  • What I've Learned: The depth of Yoruba influence in Santería and Candomblé is incredible. It's not just a footnote; it's a living, breathing part of these cultures.
  • The Challenges: My prompts still challenge me. Deformities show up in about 10% of my generation, even with negative prompts. Getting the lighting and camera angles right remains another challenge. Additionally, last week was hectic, and I missed the therapeutic benefits of journaling and self-reflection.
