I'm excited to share my journey's progress as I reflect on the end of the third week. I am proud to have completed the MidJourney courses, which have given me a deeper understanding of various technical aspects.

Beyond technical knowledge, I also explored the profound impact of colonialism on Yoruba culture. I gained a broader perspective by learning about the effects of inter-tribal civil wars on the Yoruba people.

While exploring this week, I discovered several captivating themes in my study. I learned about the changes in occupation and economic dynamics that were brought about by historical events. I also found the influential forces of both Christianity and Islam within Yoruba society. Witnessing the impressive adaptations made by individuals in this resilient community, as they resisted adversity, was truly inspiring.

Exploring these subjects proved highly engaging, and each discovery offered new insights. This ultimately led me to embrace a greater appreciation for what has shaped present-day realities faced by the Yorubas throughout history.

Next Steps

Now that the foundation is set, my focus will be on refining my prompts to better capture the historical essence I'm aiming for. I'll also begin researching the Yoruba influence in the Americas and other parts of the world.

Learnings & Challenges

  • What I've Learned: This week's research highlighted the incredible resilience and adaptability of the Yoruba people. I also learned that many historical Yoruba artworks were stolen and are now displayed in European museums. The art of Olowe of Ise was a magnificent discovery!
  • The Challenges: My biggest challenge is with prompting. I'm struggling to generate images that have an authentic, historical "Nigerian/Yoruba" feel, as the AI tends to default to modern or futuristic styles. This is something I'll need to work on.
